What is a Chakra?
A chakra is an energy center in the body. Just as we have a physical body, we have an energy body. There are seven chakras beginning with the root chakra located at the base of the spine to the top chakra at the crown of the head with the heart chakra in the middle.
What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are aromatic compounds that are found in seeds, bark, flowers, stems, roots and other parts of a plant. They are distilled from all over the world. There are many different uses:
- To support the immune system
- For emotional health and well being
- Stress reduction
- Sleep support
- First aid remedies
- Natural household cleaning
How to the these two relate to each other (chakras and oils)?
Each energy center in the body has an oil or oils to help bring forth balance. For example, the root chakra is associated with grounding elements of the earth. Vetiver is an actual root that is dug from the ground and distilled. Vetiver can be used at the start or the end of the day on the bottoms of the feet, by rubbing the oil on your hands and inhaling or by diffusing. Using this oil helps one to find a firm foundation in daily life. Both are connected to the natural world.
What do chakras and essential oils have to do with yoga?
Yoga is all systems working together in harmony. The physical, mental, emotional and energy body. The oils can assist in that harmony. Used together they create a beautiful way for one to bring awareness and balance to the energy system.
How can this information be used in a student's daily life?
The chakras help us see which part of life needs more of our attention. The oils can be used daily to enhance this internal process. They can used to lift one’s mood, to help the central nervous system to relax or to enhance creativity.

This workshop will include an overview of the chakras and their significance as well as the optional use of essential oils to bring balance to each chakra. There will be an all levels practice followed by meditation. Please bring a journal/pen. Thank you!
